Junior Bazile, a native of Haiti, is a physician practicing infectious disease medicine and Public Health. His professional career has been motivated by a strong sense of responsibility to use his knowledge, skills and experience in the service of others. He went to Medical School in his home country and after med school, Dr Bazile has worked with Partners in Health (PIH)/Zanmi Lasante (ZL) in Haiti for 5 years as Medical Director and HIV/AIDS/TB/STI Program Manager in the clinic of Boucan Carre and as Social Services Resident in Belladère in the Central Plateau of Haiti. He earned a “Diplome d’Universite” degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Victor Segalen in Bordeaux, France and obtained a Fulbright scholarship in 2007 to pursue a Master’s of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he graduated in 2009. From 2007 to 2010 he also obtained a Fellowship in Global Health Delivery under a collaboration between Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA and the Ministry of Health and Population in Haiti. Over the summer of 2008, for his internship in Public Health, he implemented a hand washing with soap project in a very poor village in Iquitos, Peru with a group of students and professors from UAB. He Worked in Burundi for over one year from 2009 to 2010 with Village Health Works (PIH supported project) as Medical Director and from December 2010 to July 2014 he has worked with the PIH’s sister organization, Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) team in Malawi as the Clinical Director and Community Health Director. He has also worked for short times in Peru, Mexico and Rwanda. From September 2014 to February 2015 he briefly worked as a Consultant in Health Services with The Bassiouni Group in New York. He has worked with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as Medical Data Abstractor and Analyst on a project looking at the effect of the Zika virus on the Central Nervous System (CNS) of newborn babies. He has also worked with the Global Health Delivery Project at Harvard University as Research Consultant. He has worked as Director of Programs at New York Harm Reduction Educators from April 2017 until March 2020. In December 2020 he started working with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) and Physician Affiliate Groups of New York (PAGNY) as Clinical Advisor and Medical Epidemiologist. He remained in this position until September 2022. After that, he has been working with the Research Foundation of the City University of New York as Program Director.

He is also an accomplished musician: singer, song writer, guitarist, keyboardist and bassist. He grew up in Haiti under the influence of a variety of types of music: Compas, rock-pop, roots, reggae, salsa, R&B, Forro, Bosa Nova, Blues and Jazz. During his tenure in Africa, he also became acquainted with kwasa-kwasa, kwela, Bikutsi and Makossa.

In Haiti, Junior played with a variety of bands starting in 1993 when he was only 16 years old. Among the bands that he played with are: Alpha, Detay, Vibration, Explosif. He also played regularly in masses at Saint Jean Bosco Church and Marie Dominique Matzarello Church in Petion-Ville from 1993 to 1996. In 1996 he spent many months performing every weekend at Harry’s Restaurant in Petion-Ville, Haiti with Vibration. He later joined the band Medical Connection, a group formed by med-students at the school of Medicine in the State University in Haiti. With Medical Connection, Junior performed in several Galas organized at the State University. In the USA, while getting his MPH at UAB, Junior performed, as a solo artist, in several events organized by the University: International Bazaar of UAB, Awards Ceremonies etc. In Burundi, Junior also performed at various places in Bujumbura with bands playing kwasa kwasa from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Malawi, he played with the band Sweet Potatoes. From March 2011 to June 2013, he performed every other weekend at Chez Maky Restaurant in Blantyre, Malawi. He also formed a band called: Neno Health Education Band (NHEB) focusing mainly on playing music to educate people on health in the remote Neno district in Southern Malawi. The idea was to use music as a mean to raise awareness among community members on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, typhoid and other ailments that affect the community members.

With more than 12 years of experience as a doctor practicing Global Health, and tropical and infectious diseases, Dr Bazile has dedicated his life to serve the very poor and to give them access to quality healthcare services in Haiti, Burundi, Malawi and other countries where he has worked. He has consistently used his musical skills to raise awareness on health promotion and disease prevention. On the album” Sansibilizasyon”, Junior is raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, love and the social, economical and political situation in his beloved Haiti.

His music is a mix of Pop, smooth Jazz, R&B and roots music. “Sansibilizasyon” is a “must have” album for anyone who is a fan of good music and anyone who advocate for social justice while helping others.
